The Champs Standard

Our community is our family—and like all families, we take care of each other. So when we sat down to put new safety measures in place, we went beyond the guidelines.

We’ve always been dedicated to the cleanliness of our studios and the health and safety of our community. Now we’re taking it to an even higher level.

This situation is always developing, we have a few more upgrades in the works, and as we learn more, we’ll be constantly fine-tuning and updating this page with the latest—so you can always check back here.

How we're looking out for you

At Champs Fitness, we have developed a very intensive COVID-19 Policy which includes new protocols for physical distancing, cleaning and contact tracing.

Rearranged the gym to ensure physical distancing of 1M minimum. In some circumstances where we believe use time will be longer, we have increased distancing to 1.5m - 2m.

Cleaned & Sanitised the gym from top to bottom with hospital grade disinfectant, and will maintain this cleanliness with  a strict new cleaning policy,
with a daily deep clean and high touch points cleaned multiple times a day.

We have elected to remove some items that are difficult to maintain a high level of cleanliness with; including foam rollers, resistance bands, mats, press up handles, massage balls etc. We recommend that if your gym routine includes these sorts of equipment, you supply your own going forward.

How you can help us look out for each other

​​Please make sure to practice social distancing when in close proximity to others. Follow the markers placed around the gym to maintain a safe distance.

Wash your hands upon entry to the gym and regularly while working out, or use the provided hand sanitiser.

Please bring a towel for your workouts, and use the cleaning equipment supplied to wipe down equipment before and after use.

Practise good hygiene, cough and sneeze into your elbow and wash your hands regularly.

If you have a cough, fever, or symptoms of COVID-19, please do not come to the gym until you’re symptom-free and fever-free for three days.If you have tested positive for COVID-19, or have knowingly come into close contact with someone who has, we ask that you do not come to the gym for 14 days or until you’ve tested negative for COVID-19.

We’re encouraging members and staff to limit person-to-person contact, including hugs & high fives. Community and love is in our DNA—but right now, this is the best way to take care of our Champs Fam

FAQs

What have you done to clean the gym and make it safe?
We have developed a new internal COVID-19 policy which includes strict protocols, including cleaning, physical distancing and contact tracing.

Why have you removed some equipment and what if I want to use it?
We have elected to remove some items that are difficult to maintain a high level of cleanliness with; including foam rollers, resistance bands, mats, press up handles, massage balls etc. We recommend that if your gym routine includes these sorts of equipment, you supply your own going forward.

What happens to group fitness classes?
We won’t be bringing back group fitness immediately. We’re not able to ensure acceptable physical distancing and need some further time to come up with the best approach to delivering classes.

What about Personal Training?
All of our personal trainers will return to the gym and will be available for your regular training sessions. Our trainers will also be responsible to maintaining a high level of hygiene and strict physical distancing protocols.

When will you be open?
We will reopen at 5am on Thursday 14 May, and return to 24 hour access for members from then.

What will your staffed hours be?
Our advertised staff hours will remain the same for visitation purposes, however we will extend the staffed hours to ensure protocols in place are being adhered to and adequate cleaning can take place.

What happens to my membership payments?
All memberships have been on hold throughout level 3 or 4 (except by prior arrangement). Once the gym reopens, the bulk hold will be lifted, and all memberships will return as normal.

Can I pause my membership for longer?
Please contact us via email to discuss this - future holds will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and may incur a small admin fee.

Will you limit the number of people in the gym?
We will need to be cautious of how many people are in the gym in order to keep proper physical distancing. However, we will monitor this and see if there is a need to introduce a limit. We are hoping that once people return to their normal gym habits, that we shouldn’t have any crowding in the gym. However if necessary we can look at booking times in the gym, or limiting sessions to 60 mins. ​

Will the gym still be open 24/7?
Yes, the gym will still be open 24/7 and members will be able to access the gym with the swipe card. We ask that any members using the gym, at all times but especially outside staffed hours, maintain physical distancing protocols, standard hygiene practises and wipe down all equipment before & after use.

Will we need to wear a mask to come to the gym? Will staff be wearing PPE?
It will not be mandatory to wear a mask to the gym, and our stance will remain that safe hygiene practises and physical distancing will be more effective than a mask, particularly if not used appropriately - this applies to staff & members. As per the guidelines from the Exercise Association of New Zealand, it is not generally recommended to wear gloves as it is easier to wash hands/use hand gel without gloves. Staff will be provided regular PPE for cleaning purposes only.

What if someone in the gym is not adhering to the new guidelines?
If someone in the gym is not following our new COVID-19 policy, please inform staff in the first instance. We understand some people can find it confronting to be approached by other members, and we want to make the gym a comfortable place for all of our Champs Family, so please voice any concerns with one of our team first.
